As the leaves fall from the trees, you’ll find us curled up with these:
From Cassidy:
If you’re an artist who finds yourself dancing circles around actually doing the work you’re passionate about — “The War of Art” is for you. Steven Pressfield offers both challenge and insight as he helps creatives identify their “Resistance” and move beyond it to become a professional and thriving contributor in their chosen field.
“Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It’s a gift to the world and every being in it. Don’t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you’ve got.”
From Teresa:
We all think that culture moves and shakes by the movements of the prodigies among us, but in “Originals,” an expose on non-conformists, Adam Grant proves that it’s simply those of us willing to take risks, fail and take a second look at why we accept the rules around us.
From Ziza:
After bingeing “The Handmaid’s Tale” like everyone else, I was hungry for more Margaret Atwood. I came across “The Blind Assassin” at an airport bookstore and was immediately drawn in by what is, essentially, a mystery, sci-fi, romance and fictional memoir all in one. Atwood cleverly tells the story of Iris Chase Griffen as she nears the end of her life, recounting the mysterious circumstances of her sister’s death and the strains and sacrifices of a sisterly bond.
From Melanie:
Everyone close to me and in the office knows I’ve been keeping in a Nordic state of mind since a summer trip to Denmark, eh, for better or worse. But I’ve never been so into geography! “The Nordic Theory of Everything” is written by a Finnish journalist Anu Partanen as she contrasts her mother country with her current home in America. With a thesis on “the Nordic theory of love” she examines the different strategies by which we look for our people’s best in government and family life.

Great post! The Nordic Theory of Everything sounds sooooo good.
Life has been pretty busy and it’s been tough finding time to read. I am still working my way through my summer reading list.
Currently reading and loving The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
Books I read and loved this summer:
Around the Way Girl by Taraji P. Henson
Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston
Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips
Love and First Sight by Josh Sundquist
Fitness Junkie by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza
Happy reading!
Hey Ziza,
You should also read The Heart Goes Last. It’s so good! I recently had the chance to interview Margaret Atwood and got the insider scoop into what she’s reading!

The Golden Hour by Salman Rushdie. It requires focus but is well worth it. I forgot how much I loved his writing.
Margaret Atwood is always an excellent choice!
The Nordic Theory of Everything sounds so interesting. I’m super into Nordic design, and it would be amazing to read more into their lives in general!
