A smiling woman with her hair tossed in front of her closed eyes

“Enhance Your Natural Beauty” is a Darling series focused on highlighting women’s natural beauty and providing tips to enhance what we may deem “flawed” or “imperfect.” We offer beauty tips to encourage women to have fun with makeup and, hopefully, learn to love themselves more in the process.

Brows are one of the best ways to frame your face, but with so many products on the market, finding what works can be daunting. At Darling, we are all about using makeup as creative expression and to enhance your natural beauty. We want you to love those brows and use makeup as a fun way to work with what you’ve got!

Follow along as Makeup artist Caitlin Burton, aka Makeup by Cait, takes you through her favorite technique for full brows.

Step 1: Prep your brows.

If you plan to wear eyeshadow, then do your brows first to set the structure of your makeup look. Brush brows upward with a spooly brush to fluff them. Then, use a foundation brush or sponge to gently brush over your entire eye/brow area so that they seamlessly blend with the rest of your makeup.

Step 2: Fill in sparse areas with a brow pencil.

Take a brow pencil and lightly draw on strokes in the direction of hair growth to fill in sparse areas. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz is a tried and true favorite. Use a light hand to mimic natural brow hairs, occasionally brushing through brows with a spooly to blend everything. Focus on the bottom and end of the brow, waiting to fill in the inner corners with brow powder.

Step 3: Fill in the inner corner with brow powder.

Next, use a brow powder and a flat definer brush. This brow powder duo comes in a variety of shades. Place the product at the base of the inner corner of your brow and pull the brush upward toward your hairline. With the powder, set any other parts of your brow you previously used the pencil on.

Step 4: Set your brows using a bar of soap.

Next, take a setting spray and spray it directly on to a bar of standard soap. Rub a clean spooly through the soap, being sure to get a good amount of product on the spooly. Brush though your brows with the soap-coated spooly. Use your fingers to brush though your brows in an upward motion to make them stay in place.

Step 5: Define brows with foundation.

Finally, take a foundation that matches your skin tone and apply below the brow with a flat liner brush to define. Using a cream product like this RCMA palette allows for control and precision. Blend to finish.

Is makeup a part of your daily routine? Would you say it is more a ritual or a form of artistic expression?
