In many european countries, drinking is a large part of their culture. Teens under 21 drink regularly. The controversy in America, is whether the decision to drink is done so responsibly. lowering the age to 18 isn’t that bad of a decision. Instead of obsessing over age, we need to educate our young in the risks of alcohol. tell them the result of binge drinking. overall, i also think it’s important to desensitize the idea of alcohol. AFter all, it is, just a drink. and if we instill it in our youth that “it’s just a drink” it will become merely that. The first drink should not be a major stepping stone in your maturity nor should it be considered as a rite of passage. it is really, just a drink.
DRINKING UNDERAGE IS OFTEN SEEN AS TABOO HERE IN THE STATES. BY LOWERING THE AGE WE WOULD PARTIALLY ERASE THAT STIGMA FOR YOUNG ADULTS WHO WANT TO ENJOY ALCOHOL. THERE ARE RISKS to letting 18-year-olds drink, but there are risks letting anyone drink. Besides, plenty of 18-year-olds are already drinking, why have them do it illegally?
