We are back with part three of our Darling High Fives! In case you missed our first and second rounds, here is what we’re up to:
We get so many wonderful emails, tips and leads about the incredible businesses sprouting up all over the globe. We wish we could fly out to meet every single one and give all the go-getters and dream-chasers we learn about a four-page spread in the magazine. Alas, resources are numbered and for the sake of our carbon footprint, jetting to and fro just isn’t the most practical. Wink. So, we’ve decided to start rounding up our latest finds in this series as a, “Hi. We see you. We think you’re pretty great and we want everyone to know about you, too!”
As we live in a consumer culture, Darling finds it refreshing to give shout outs to unique brands that aim to give back. So here are five clothing or accessory brands that are prioritizing both aesthetics and ethics in their products:
Popinjay
This brand has captivated CNN, BBC, NPR, Guardian, Financial Times, Al-Jazeera and many others with their breathtaking artisian accessories that act as storytelling platforms for their international employees from places like China, Vietnam, and Pakistan—while earning fair wages. You can pick up these gorgeous handbags at Anthropologie or on the company’s website.
Darzah
Through each embroidered stitch, Darzah preserves Palestinian tradition and ethical practices through their shoes, handbags, accessories, and home décor. The brand is a nonprofit certified with the Fair Trade Federation, employing refugee and impoverished female artists in the West Bank.
Harper + Lange
This bohemian brand is equal parts fashionable and safe for our furry friends. As their clothing is 100 percent cruelty-free and vegan, it’s no wonder they have been highlighted on PETA’s list of cruelty-free stores and Farm Sanctuary’s cruelty-free shopping guide.
Saved Kisses Clothing
With the tagline “as gentle on animals and the environment as it is on your skin,” we cannot help but save a couple kisses for this brand. You will be quite tempted to fill your shopping cart this summer with these nautical-inspired goodies and feel great while doing it. After all, cute clothes that protect cute critters and the earth they live in? What’s not to love?
Season
Ethical fashion is always in “Season.” And in addition to being eco-friendly, this brand is truly what “dreams” are made of: 100 percent silk and versatile as their dresses can be worn in four different ways. Go give some love on their KickStarter campaign!
