Christmas comes too quickly for a heart some years.
But I keep it, I keep it.
Christmas comes too jolly for a heart some years.
But I take it in, I take it in.
Christmas comes too quiet for a heart some years.
But I listen, I listen.
I keep the words of years past, of generations gone
Of carolers wasailing and Christmas cards from afar
I take in candelight and starlight, firelight warmth
And the comfortable glow of familiar faces
I listen to tales of old, tales we’ve told a million times
To hear them anew.
This year, I meet Christmas.
I greet it with a heart holding all of the good things
And all of my gratefulness for grace in the bad
And I lay them down, waiting, expectantly
For a twinkling evening sky, for a knowing night star
You are welcome this year, Christmas.
This year, I meet Christmas.
I greet it on bended knee, head bowed, soul bold
For I need your promise, your beacon of hope
Open for healing, waiting for a breath
Of awe and merriment to lift the spirit
You are welcome this year, Christmas.
I meet you here, this cold December night
You bring blessings for belief
Bravery for a broken heart
And a bouquet of beauty
For barren bones
I am made better, this dawn of Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays, darlings.
