Sometimes it feels as though fall has its own cult following. It’s like we’re all waiting with bated breath for that first morning chill so we can sip Pumpkin Spice, throw on a chunky blanket and pick apples to our heart’s content.
Well, I’m not always on that bandwagon. As a lifelong New Englander I’ve learned that the leaves disappear all too soon into snow-topped trees. But one way of embracing these changing tides is by prepping my closet with all things cozy. So, being an advocate for brands that adhere to ethical standards, I’ve scouted the best sweater styles from eight admirable companies.
Check out the best options below (in a range of price points) that’ll let you buy with confidence and spend the next few months in serious comfort:
Siizu – $90
Vina Turtle Neck Sweater | Made from Merino Wool with ribbed detailing, the Vina offers a chic way to stay toasty warm.
Everlane – $48
The Classic French Terry Mockneck Sweater | When the only fabric is cotton, you’re in for breathable comfort that layers beautifully over tees, tanks or just worn on its own.
Alternative Apparel – $115
Lost + Wander Astrid Sweater | A duster length option is the ideal go-between when a coat seems to heavy but you still want to achieve that classic, finished outfit.
Patagonia – $49-99
Better Sweater Zip Fleece | For the adventurer, outdoor explorer, or cold weather enthusiast this half-zip fleece will be your durable best friend all season.
HOPE Made in the World – $137
Baby Alpaca V-Neck Pullover | Hello, softness—this sleek design is both workwear ready and weekend loungeworthy with its plush fabric.
Slumlove – $55
The Sleeveless Sweater | Never underestimate the beauty of a sleeveless sweater for layering under a blazer, your favorite fall jacket, or wearing solo on warmer days.
Eileen Fisher – $398
Seamless Italian Cashmere Box-Top | This cashmere number looks as good as it feels—take a luxe approach to your wardrobe with its modern structure.
Indigenous – $158
Variegated Knit Hoodie | One hoodie stands a stitch above the rest: side slits and a high-low hemline are the defining features on this wear-it-every-day style.

Great article! Just stocked up on a couple of cropped Everlane cashmere sweaters, so worth it.
I’m not too enthusiastic about the arrival of fall myself, too. I just prefer warmer weather in general. But you’re right, having a few cosy knits in the closet always makes the transition easier. Love the picks you featured here!
