Music can help people process hard things like  grief, overwhelm or loneliness. The Darling playlist series was created to help you during this time of quarantine. We hope to use music to bring you a little hope today.

My cousin is one of those rare people who does not listen to sad music. I asked her if there were any exceptions. She told me there weren’t, and I was entirely baffled.

This concept is all but foreign to me. I was a dramatic child who grew into a dramatic adult, and there are times that I listen to sad music specifically to make myself feel even more sad. Other times, I listen to sad music simply because it is beautiful and haunting. I like music that makes me feel something.

As I have gotten older, I am learning to not sit in my bad days. If I notice myself with a bad attitude, feeling snappy or irritable or wanting to complain, I have started to turn to music that will make me feel better instead of worse. There are certain songs that won’t allow me stay in my sulking mood after I listen to them. If you have found yourself having more “bad days” than usual lately, then I hope these songs help turn your day around.
