This was a glorious summer for fashion. From feminine floral dresses to roomy joggers, there’s been a spectrum of fun and flattering styles to choose from. And now that the fall is upon us, it’s easy to wish that we didn’t have to put away our summer favorites altogether.
Don’t worry, though. You don’t have to leave all your summer favorites behind. You can actually migrate a few of your summer pieces into fall staples.
Here are five fall staples you can take from your summer wardrobe, in addition to reasons why they all work for fall and ways to wear them:
1. The Floral Maxi Dress
The floral maxi dress is one of the simplest summer pieces to turn into a fall staple, as it lends itself easily to the cooler temperatures due to its length. Wear yours with a denim jacket for a city vibe, or go bohemian chic with a velvet coverup and booties.
2. The Metallic Midi
The metallic pleated midi skirt adds brightness and flair to your fall wardrobe and is the perfect length for a formal work meeting or a fun night out.
For the office, wear your metallic skirt with a sensible shoe like an oxford and a silk blouse; but after work, add a twist to your look by throwing on a cozy oversized knit sweater for the rest of the evening.
3. Jogger Pants
Jogger pants are a comfortable yet classy piece because they are the closest thing to looking put together while feeling like you’re wearing sweatpants in public. Yes, please!
Wear your joggers with a fierce pump — try one of the suede options that have recently hit stores for fall, then top off your look with a fluid blouse in a silk or wool crepe fabric.
4. The Lace Dress
The lace dress is one of those pieces you can put on without having to think too much about because it always makes you feel well dressed in an instant.
Wear your lace dresses with flat lace-up boots. Try Timberland, Chippewa or Red Wing boots to toughen up your look. Accessorize your hair with a wide brim hat which looks chic and keeps your head warm.
5. The Off-the-Shoulder Top
The off-the-shoulder top is a piece that can be dressed up or dressed down easily, which makes it a great choice for fall weekend activities such as apple or pumpkin picking.
Wear yours with a relaxed denim pant rolled up at the ankles and sneakers during an active day then switch into a tailored cropped pant, heels and a silk neck scarf for evening festivities.
These five staples — borrowed from your summer wardrobe — are versatile and easy to pair with the budding fall trends. Enjoy styling!
